Ilocos Norte Police Recover P6.7 Million Worth of Shabu in Pagudpud Waters

PAGUDPUD, ILOCOS NORTE – A substantial amount of illegal drugs valued at approximately PHP6.7 million was recovered from the coastal waters of Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, sparking increased surveillance and community awareness efforts by local police.

According to Philippines News Agency, the town’s police chief, the discovery was made by a local fisherman who found a floating plastic package off the coast of Balaoi on Friday. The fisherman subsequently alerted village officials, who then involved the police. “The item, which weighed 998.32 grams, was examined by the Ilocos Norte Provincial Forensic Unit and was confirmed to be shabu,” Abing reported.

This incident follows similar recoveries of shabu packs in the coastal regions of Pasuquin and Burgos in Ilocos Norte, as well as the waters of Ilocos Sur earlier in the month, suggesting a pattern that has raised concerns among law enforcement agencies.

In response, police authorities have intensified their seaborne patrols and are conducting extensive information drives in coastal communities. They urge locals to report any suspicious findings or activities immediately to the authorities. Abing highlighted the importance of community vigilance and the role of local fishermen and residents in these efforts.

Moreover, the Philippine National Police (PNP) is encouraging the public to utilize the police mobile service app, iPOLICE, which allows users to connect with the PNP 24/7. The app provides emergency services and assistance without the need for an Internet signal, and also offers access to various PNP services, including applications for clearances, updates, and advisories.
