Agriculture and Agrifood Industry Records Positive Growth


Bandar Seri Begawan: The gross production of the country’s agriculture and agrifood industry has shown positive growth. Based on statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food, the sector’s commodities recorded an output value of $457 million until October 2024. The livestock sector remains the largest contributor to the country’s agricultural and agrifood development.



According to Radio Television Brunei, the contribution of the livestock sector as of October last year was valued at $268 million, a slight increase from $265 million in the same period in 2023. The chicken meat industry was the largest contributor within the livestock sector, generating $127 million.



The crop sector’s contribution amounted to $66 million of the total value of local production, with the vegetable industry being the largest contributor at $31 million. Meanwhile, the agri-food industry added almost $123 million, with value-added products and livestock processes contributing nearly $92 million. These developments are driven by farmers and livestock breeders, who are the primary producers of the country’s food supply.
