8th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports Concludes in Hanoi

Hanoi: The 8th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports, AMMS 8, and its related meetings have concluded, serving as a significant platform for ASEAN and stakeholders in sports to exchange views, discuss policies, and enhance cooperation towards an active and united ASEAN Community. The meeting in Hanoi, Viet Nam, was attended by ASEAN Ministers responsible for sports, their representatives, and the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for the Socio-Cultural Community, ASCC. Timor-Leste participated as an observer.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports of Brunei Darussalam presented the nation’s vision for the upcoming Work Plan on Sports for 2026 – 2030. The Minister expressed support for the seven proposed priority areas, highlighting their alignment with the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi Mohamad emphasized the role of sports diplomacy in fostering friendship, solidarity, and a shared ASEAN identity. He also called for safeguarding and integrity in sports policy to ensure participation remains safe, inclusive, and respectful, especially for youth, women, and persons with disabilities.

The 5th ASEAN Plus Japan Ministerial Meeting on Sports reiterated their dedication to enhancing cooperation in sports exchange, training, and youth involvement. Moreover, the 2nd ASEAN Plus China Ministerial Meeting on Sports emphasized the mutual goal of boosting capacity building and promoting collaborative programs in sports development, which contribute to regional solidarity and people-to-people connectivity through sport.
