Electrical and Consumer Goods Expo

Various goods in the form of the latest clothing and electrical items are showcased during the Electrical and Consumer Goods Expo organised by H.U Advertising. The expo is held at The Mall, Gadong.

14 local and foreign entrepreneurs are taking part in the expo, which is opened to the public until this Sunday from 10 in the morning till 10 at night. For the convenience of entrepreneurs and buyers, H.U Advertising Company also set up the website www.huonestop.com as a platform for local entrepreneurs to sell their products online. According to Dayang Nuraina binti Othman, Assistant Manager of H.U Advertising Company, the Expo is held in accordance with the Ministry of Health's Standard Operating Procedures.

‘Jiwaku Ikhlas’ Charity Project

Joy was clearly reflected on the faces of more than 40 selected students from two secondary schools when they received donations of school supplies through the 'Jiwaku Ikhlas' Charity Project. The students were from Sultan Sharif Ali Secondary School and Berakas Secondary School. The 10th Edition of the 'Jiwaku Ikhlas' Charity Project is a collaboration between the Royal Brunei Malay Reserve Regiment, the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Army Cadets and Kris Karmila Kreations.

The contributions were presented by Her Excellency Homeira Rigi Zirouki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary the Islamic Republic of Iran. The project began as a way to alleviate the burden of those affected by COVID-19. It aimed to aid more than 1,200 individuals which include low-income families, victims of house fire, single mothers, the disabled as well as orphans.

BFA 2021 Award Certificates Presentation

The Brunei Food Awards, BFA, is held annually to promote food tourism and recognise the best Brunei foods. 2021 saw the participation of 225 restaurants across Brunei Darussalam. The BFA 2021 Award Certificates Presentation was held yesterday morning at De Hayat Cafe @ Soto Pabo in Kampung Pintu Malim. The event is a follow up of the BFA 2021 Ceremony which was held virtually in conjunction with the Brunei December Festival 2021 on the 23rd of December 2021.

Certificates were presented by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism. The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Excapade Restaurant and Ayamku Restaurant. Meanwhile, the Outstanding Person Award was presented to Thanis Lim with special mentions to Aminggunawan and Brunei Food Diary. 46 restaurants for 63 dishes were feted for their respective Best Dishes. Also present were the High Commissioners as well as Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Brunei Darussalam who participated as BFA Special Judges in 2021.

Queen’s Baton Relay Walk

The Queen's Baton Relay, a tradition of the Commonwealth Games, has reached Brunei Darussalam as the 30th country, on a tour that covers 140,000 kilometres and travelling through all continents in 269 days. The Commonwealth Games this year will be held in the United Kingdom from the 28th of July until the 8th of August. The British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam stated the matter at the Queen's Baton Relay Walk yesterday morning.

His Excellency John Virgoe said, the Commonwealth Games will coincide with the celebrations for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second's Platinum Jubilee.

Upon arrival from Malaysia, the baton was handed over by His Excellency Dato' Raja Reza bin Raja Zaib Shah, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam who then passed it to Pengiran Mohammad Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, as representative of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council. The baton's next destination is Papua New Guinea on the 30th of January.

National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19, 6 Directive Violations Issued Compound Fines

The Minister of Health also shared on the accomplishments of the National Vaccination Programme as of the 25th of January 2022.

The overall population rate who have received at least one dose of the vaccine is 94.8 percent. Meanwhile, the rate of those who have received two doses is 93.9 percent; while 38.2 percent have received three doses of the vaccine. For the movement restriction carried out from 12 midnight to 4 in the morning, six violations of the directive were recorded.

27 New Cases, 43 Cases Recovered

27 new COVID-19 cases were recorded yesterday, taking the country's total COVID-19 cases to 16,206. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health stated the matter during the Media Conference on the latest COVID-19 Situation held at Dewan Al 'Afiah, Ministry of Health yesterday afternoon.

According to the Minister of Health, out of the new cases, 24 are local while 3 others are imported. 2,211 lab tests were carried out in the past 24 hours, with the rate of positive cases at 1.2 percent. Meanwhile, there are 361 active cases after 43 cases recovered, bringing the total recovered cases to 15,743. Bed occupancy rate in isolation centres nationwide is 9.1 percent.
