Understanding and Internalising the Meaning of Hijrah
Bandar seri begawan: The country consistently commemorates the arrival of the year of hijrah by organizing a range of religious ceremonies and activities designed to internalize the lessons of the hijrah. This reflects the nation’s commitment to embracing and learning from the significant event of the hijrah of the Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. However, the prayer leader emphasized that merely holding ceremonies is insufficient if there is no conscious effort to enhance piety and obedience to Allah SWT. This was highlighted during a Friday sermon titled “Understanding and Internalising the Meaning of Hijrah”.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the sermon stressed the importance for Muslims to strive towards self-improvement by abandoning harmful actions and those prohibited by Allah SWT. The prayer leader encouraged the faithful to pursue a better life closer to Allah SWT, assuring that Allah SWT supports His servants who genuinely intend to make positive changes in their lives. The sermon further pointed out that success is contingent upon the willingness to change; without the intention to ‘migrate’ towards betterment, achieving success and progress is unlikely. It was a reminder that Islam encourages proactive efforts to change one’s circumstances, rather than passively waiting for divine intervention.
