Team USA Secures Gold in Men’s Basketball at Paris Olympics, Defeating France

Paris — Team USA clinched the men’s basketball gold medal at the Paris Olympics on Saturday, overcoming France with a score of 98-87 at Bercy Arena. This victory extends their winning streak to five consecutive Olympic golds since 2008.

According to Philippines News Agency, Stephen Curry led Team USA with 24 points, while LeBron James contributed a double-double, scoring 14 points and distributing 10 assists. Teammates Devin Booker and Kevin Durant each added 15 points to the total. Despite a strong performance from France’s Victor Wembanyama, who scored 26 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Guerschon Yabusele’s 20 points, the French team was unable to secure a win. Team USA’s victory marks their seventeenth overall gold medal in Olympic basketball.

The U.S. has dominated the Olympic court since professional players were first allowed to participate in 1992, capturing gold in every Games except in 2004, when they took bronze after a loss to Argentina. France, meanwhile, has repeated its previous outcome from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics by taking silver again, having lost the final to the U.S. 87-82.

In other results, Serbia claimed the bronze medal earlier by defeating world champion Germany 93-83. This medal adds to Serbia’s Olympic honors, following their silver medals from the 1996 Atlanta and 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games. Serbian star Nikola Jokic led with a triple-double, posting 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists, while Franz Wagner was Germany’s top scorer with 18 points and nine rebounds.
