Special Speech in Conjunction with World AIDS Day 2021

 

The rate of HIV infection in Brunei Darussalam is low, however there are still new HIV cases reported every year. As of December 2020, 330 cases were reported and 72 deaths were recorded. The Minister of Health shared the matter in a ceremony to commemorate WORLD AIDS DAY 2021 held virtually. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar in his speech also shared several simple steps to reduce the risk of threats from HIV and AIDS. According to the Minister of Health, the law in the country under the Infectious Diseases Act was enacted to protect the confidentiality of a HIV-positive person.

 

World AIDS Day provides opportunities for the global community as a whole, to take the necessary action in achieving the ultimate goal of ending the AIDS epidemic. These include new efforts to end HIV as a public health threat by 2030.
