Post: Police Officer Accidentally Kills Teenage Girl in Kidapawan

Kidapawan, Philippines - A tragic incident occurred on Sunday night in Sitio Mateo, Barangay Berada, where a 13-year-old girl was fatally shot during a police officer's indiscriminate firing. Lt. Col. Dominador Palgan, Jr., city police director, identified the officer as Corporal Roy Maangue, a 36-year-old police intelligence officer assigned to the Magpet municipal police. The incident unfolded when Maangue, reportedly engaged in a drinking session with relatives, fired his gun multiple times amidst a heated argument.

According to Philippines News Agency, one of the bullets accidentally struck the teenage girl in the throat. The victim, who was near the scene, was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Maangue, who used his government-issued 9mm Glock pistol in the shooting, was subsequently arrested at his home. Palgan stated that Maangue could face charges of 'reckless imprudence resulting in homicide'. The Philippine National Police Internal Affairs Service has been informed, and Palgan assured that no special treatment would be given to the suspect.
