The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday turned over PHP11.7 million in cash rewards to informants who have provided key information that led to the arrest of 13 most wanted persons in the country. PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. led the distribution of the cash rewards in simple rites at the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City. These individuals provided vital information that directly led to the successful arrest of two communist leaders and 11 other most wanted criminals involved in various heinous crimes such as rebellion, murder, robbery and rape. "Today, we honor the unsung heroes whose anonymous efforts have made a significant impact on curbing crime and bringing dangerous criminals to justice. We must continue to stand united against criminal elements, and I urge the public to support the PNP by providing timely and reliable information on criminals and wanted individuals," Acorda said in his speech during the rites. Acorda also encouraged the public to continue supporting and helping the PNP by providing necessary information on criminals and wanted persons for their immediate arrests. 'The intelligence community plays a vital role in giving a picture to the commanders that become the basis for decisions,' he stressed. The PNP Reward Program grants monetary rewards to individuals who were instrumental in the successful capture, surrender, or death of most wanted persons. More assets Meanwhile, the PNP has procured more guns, vehicles and other equipment worth over PHP571 million as part of the efforts to boost the operational capabilities of the police force. Acorda said the PHP571,295,695 spent to buy the equipment was sourced from the Capability Enhancement Programs from 2020, 2022 and 2023, in addition to the General Appropriations Fund from 2021 and 2022. Those delivered to the PNP were 80 units of light transport vehicle; 10 units of Advanced Life Support Ambulances; 3,000 units of 5.56mm Basic Assault Rifle; 4,147,266 rounds of cartridge 9mm Ball; 5,816,824 rounds of cartridge 5.56mm Ball SS109; 369 units of Digital Mobile Radio, and 1,416 units of enhanced combat helmet. 'These acquisitions mark a significant leap towards a more capable and modern police force, committed to upholding the rule of law and safeguarding the nation,' said Acorda during the blessing of the newly procured materials at Camp Crame in Quezon City on Tuesday.
