Post: PNP Chief Vows Safety for Journalists Following Radio Anchor’s Death

CALAMBA, MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL — In response to the recent fatal shooting of radio broadcaster Juan Jumalon, known as Johnny Walker, the chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) underscored the force's commitment to journalist safety on Tuesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the law enforcement agency is "tirelessly working" to ensure a secure environment for media workers, crucial to the functioning of a democratic society. Acorda, in a public statement, urged community collaboration in the quest for justice for Jumalon, emphasizing the importance of societal support in solving the crime and maintaining public safety. He highlighted the PNP's initiative to improve communication with the media to address concerns about journalist safety, underscoring his view of the media as an essential ally in combating corruption. Acorda extended condolences to the family of Jumalon and announced the formation of the Special Investigation Task Group 'Johnny Walker' to expedite the investigation of the case. The PNP Regional Office 10 is also executing an intensive manhunt for the suspects, while a facial composite of one suspect has been disseminated to aid in their apprehension.
