Philippines Allocates P42 Billion to Enhance National Irrigation in 2025

PASAY CITY — In a significant move to bolster the agricultural infrastructure, the Philippine government has earmarked PHP42 billion for the enhancement of the nation’s irrigation systems in 2025, announced the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

According to Philippines News Agency, who spoke at the discussions following the President’s State of the Nation Address, the funding aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s administration’s focus on achieving food security through agricultural development. “As [President Marcos] mentioned in his SONA, we are strengthening our irrigation system nationwide. We have allocated PHP42 billion for our irrigation system nationwide next year,” Pangandaman stated.

The allocation for irrigation is included in the 2025 National Expenditure Program (NEP), which will guide the drafting of the General Appropriations Bill (GAB) by Congress. During his third SONA, President Marcos emphasized the government’s intent to construct and refurbish more dams as part of efforts to enhance agricultural production and secure food supply.

Additionally, the President highlighted ongoing projects like the Cabaruan Solar-Powered Pump Irrigation Project in Quirino, Isabela — the largest of its type in the Philippines — and the Jalaur River Multipurpose Project in Iloilo, which is expected to irrigate 32,000 hectares. These projects illustrate the administration’s strategy to integrate advanced technologies and comprehensive planning to ensure water security and support agricultural growth across the country.
