Pasay City, Philippines – The 31st Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) concluded on Saturday at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City, marking a successful event with the endorsement of 10 resolutions. Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri led the forum, which also saw the Philippines intensify its bid for a seat in the United Nations Security Council for the 2027-2028 term.
According to Philippines News Agency, the forum's success, which involved securing firm commitments from various countries regarding the Philippines' UN Security Council bid, reflects positively on the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. Zubiri emphasized the collaborative efforts of the main branches of government in achieving national interests.
The resolutions adopted at the forum cover a wide range of significant issues, including Strengthening the Capacity of Parliaments to Promote Peace and Stability; addressing the situation on the Korean Peninsula; Combating Transnational Crimes; Rethinking Critical Infrastructure; Enhancing Regional Cooperation on Climate Action, Biodiversity Conservation, and Disaster Risk Reduction; Human Capital Development and Inclusive Growth; Regional Cooperation through Education and Culture; Regional Cooperation on Universal Health Care in the Asia-Pacific; Gender and Sustainable Development Goals; and Women's Participation and Leadership.
Zubiri praised the excellent organization and active participation of delegates from the 19 represented countries, noting the 'perfect score' in terms of resolutions adopted. He highlighted the smooth proceedings and the absence of major incidents or contentious issues during the discussions across different committees.
