Paoay, Ilocos Norte – The educational experience at Paoay East Central Elementary School (PECES) is poised for a significant upgrade with the introduction of Starlink Internet to enhance its digital connectivity.
According to Philippines News Agency, the head of PECES, the school is set to receive the satellite Internet service operated by SpaceX, the American aerospace company owned by Elon Musk. In an interview on Thursday, Cachero credited Senator Loren Legarda for her role in facilitating the installation of the advanced Internet system at their institution.
PECES has been grappling with slow Internet speeds that hamper teachers' participation in online activities and students' access to digital learning resources. The intervention spearheaded by Senator Legarda, who recently provided 90 tablets to students in the Paoay area, is expected to address these issues.
Cachero noted that the Starlink system would enable teachers and learners to engage more effectively in online meetings, seminars, and enhance overall educational opportunities. The initiative is part of a broader effort to employ Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in enriching the school's educational programs.
Senator Legarda has expressed a strong commitment to ensuring access to quality education for all Filipino students, emphasizing the significance of Starlink Internet in overcoming the connectivity barriers that rural schools often face.
Previously on May 5, the Mariano Marcos State University - Currimao Campus, in collaboration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) 1 (Ilocos), initiated the first installation of high-speed Starlink Internet provided by SpaceX. This technology is known for its fast bandwidth of 350 megabytes per second and low latency, which are crucial for efficient online learning and teaching.
The ongoing deployment of Starlink by DICT and SpaceX is aimed at boosting Internet connectivity in schools, thus supporting the educational sector's move towards a more digitally inclusive future.
