P48.9 Million Infrastructure Project Shields Pangasinan Village from La Niña Threats
SAN CARLOS CITY, PANGASINAN — A PHP48.9 million slope protection project along the Agno River has been completed, aimed at safeguarding the residents and environment of Barangay Bogaoan in San Carlos City, Pangasinan from the potential impacts of the La Niña weather phenomenon.
According to Philippines News Agency, public affairs officer of the DPWH Ilocos Region, the project which began on February 6 and was completed on April 24, encompasses a 355.47 linear-meter structural concrete revetment supported by a nine-meter z-type sheet pile. The construction includes various features such as gravel fill, reinforcing steel bars, formworks, a hydraulic gate, and a reinforced concrete pipe culvert, all designed to protect the riverbank and reduce the risks of erosion and landslides.
Tinaza highlighted the benefits of the project, noting its significant role in providing protection against heavy rainfall and typhoons. “It advances more general goals like lowering the risk of disasters and protecting the environment,” she stated. The completion of these slope protection projects is part of an organized plan to ensure the safety and sustainability of the living environment for the residents of Barangay Bogaoan.
The funding for this critical infrastructure was provided under the General Appropriation Act of 2024. It is one of several measures implemented to mitigate the possible effects of La Niña, which may pose significant challenges to the region.
