Manila — From October 29 to November 1, a collective number of over 1.7 million people paid respects to their deceased relatives in Manila’s two primary resting places, Manila North and South cemeteries.
According to Philippines News Agency, spokesperson for Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan of Manila, the total count of visitors reached 1,701,645, with more than 1.4 million visiting on November 1 alone, by 6 p.m. A breakdown of the numbers shows approximately 1,025,000 individuals at Manila North Cemetery and 450,000 at Manila South Cemetery as reported on Thursday.
The Manila South Cemetery, an enclave of San Andres within Manila, is uniquely surrounded by the territory of Makati City. Meanwhile, Manila North Cemetery, known for its historical significance and size, covers 54 hectares, making it one of the largest in the metropolitan area.
In a community-focused event, the Manila city administration hosted a "Spooktacular Halloween Fest" for at least 600 children at the Manila Zoo on October 31. Mayor Lacuna-Pangan, dressed as Snow White, participated in the festivities. The children in attendance enjoyed an array of prizes, treats, and loot bags filled with chocolates, candies, chips, biscuits, and beverages.
