Post: Northern Mindanao Spearheads Philippine Silk Industry Transformation

CAGAYAN DE ORO - Northern Mindanao took center stage on Thursday by leading the 5th Philippine Silk Summit, aimed at catalyzing the silk industry's growth through new investments and partnerships.

According to Philippines News Agency, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed with the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the local government of Villanueva, Misamis Oriental, to integrate sericulture into the region's tourism development plan. The initiative seeks to expand sericulture farming as part of farm tourism, reflecting the region's commitment to advancing the silk industry. The summit showcased the success of local farmers in sericulture, highlighting the potential for substantial growth in silk production with the support of PTRI and DOST programs. Legislation efforts are underway, with calls for a law to provide a structured roadmap for the sericulture industry's enhancement.
