Northern Luzon: Northeast Monsoon to Cause Rainfall and Potential Hazards

Batanes and Babuyan Islands – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has forecasted cloudy skies with rains over Batanes and Babuyan Islands due to the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan.”

According to Philippines News Agency, the region is at risk of potential flash floods or landslides, triggered by scattered light to moderate, and at times, heavy rains.

The same weather system will affect Ilocos, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of the Cagayan Valley, bringing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains. Meanwhile, in Cagayan and Isabela, the shear line will lead to cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. For Metro Manila and the rest of the country, the forecast indicates partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, primarily due to easterlies and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA has also issued a warning about the wind conditions in Northern Luzon. Moderate to strong winds from the northeast are expected, resulting in moderate to rough coastal waters. The rest of the country will experience light to moderate winds blowing from the east to northeast, with slight to moderate coastal waters.
