Philippines Shines with Six Medals at World Wushu Championships
Texas, USA – The Philippines concluded its participation in the 16th World Wushu Championships held at Forth Worth Convention Center with an impressive haul of six medals. The team’s crowning achievement was a gold medal in the men’s Taolu Duilian event, won by Mark Lester Ragay, Mark Anthony, and Vincent Ventura. Additionally, the Philippine team secured four silver medals from Agatha Wong in women’s Taolu-Taijiquan, Jenifer Kilapo in women’s Sanda 48kg, Arnel Roa Mandal in men’s Sanda 52kg, and Clemente Tabugara Jr. in men’s Sanda 65kg, alongside a bronze medal from Russel Diaz in men’s Sanda 48kg. This performance placed the Philippines seventh overall in the tournament.
According to Philippines News Agency, China led with 15 golds, followed by Vietnam and Macau. Julian Camacho, secretary-general of the Wushu Federation of the Philippines, was reelected as a member of the International Wushu Federation’s executive board for 2023-2027. In a significant development, the Philippines has been chosen to host the World Wushu Championships in 2027, marking the country’s first time hosting the biennial event, expected to attract over 1,000 athletes from at least 80 countries.
