Negros Occidental Eyes Investment Boost with Stable Peace and Security Declaration
BACOLOD CITY, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL — The provincial government of Negros Occidental is optimistic about attracting more investors following the government forces’ recommendation to declare a state of stable internal peace and security (SIPS) in the province. This comes after the dismantling of all communist guerrilla fronts on Negros Island. In an interview on Wednesday, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson expressed his hope that the peace and order situation would bolster investor confidence in Negros Occidental.
According to Philippines News Agency, all five guerrilla fronts of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army in the region have been dismantled. The Provincial Joint Peace and Security Coordinating Committee, comprising officials from the Philippine Army, Philippine National Police, and Philippine Coast Guard, signed a resolution on March 1 recommending the declaration of SIPS in Negros Occidental. Maj. Gen. Marion Sison, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division, highlighted the recommendation as a critical step towards achieving lasting peace and stability in Negros Island, reflecting the government’s commitment to ensuring a secure environment for both residents and potential investors.
