MSMEs as Driver of National Economy

The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs play a significant role in driving Brunei Darussalam’s economic growth. Referring to the latest statistics on the growth of MSMEs in the country, 97 % of about 6,570 enterprises are classified as active, a clear indication of the country’s economic driver.

MSMEs plays a role as the most important contributor to employment creation in Brunei Darussalam. It is estimated that MSMEs contributes more than 60 per cent of the total employment in the private sector and contributes about 40 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product, GDP in the country. The Government continues to support the development of the private sector especially MSMEs by improving governance and facilitating the way towards economic diversification.
