In an effort to tackle the hearing problem among the infant, the Ministry of Health launched the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme Clinic at the Suri Seri Begawan Hospital, Kuala Belait.
The clinic was officiated by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health. Earlier, Pengiran Doctor Hajah Siti Rafidah Binti Pengiran Haji Idris, Head of Otorhinolaryngology Department in her remarks said that the hearing screening programme is a special programme to test and detect permanent hearing problems for newborns, so that early intervention can be given to ensure they can undergo optimal speech development. The clinic has been operating at the hospital since 17th of July.
