Launching of ‘BELIA BRUNAS’ Programme on World Environment Day

Bandar Seri Begawan: Every 5th of June, the global community, including Brunei Darussalam, celebrates World Environment Day. The celebration’s goal is to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the environment and encouraging the involvement of all levels of society in environmental protection as well as sustainability actions. This year, the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation, JASTRe, Ministry of Development focused on youth involvement in environmental protection efforts with the launching of the ‘Belia Brunei Nadi Alam Sekitar’ or BRUNAS Programme, and the Environmental Youth Leader Recognition. It was held at the Ministry of Development on the morning of 5th June.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the event was attended by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid, Minister of Development. Dayang Hajah Martinah binti Haji Tamit, Director of JASTRE, in her speech, emphasized the importance of change towards more responsible and sustainable plastic management and use.

The BELIA BRUNAS is a special programme that acts as a platform to give youths the opportunity to be involved in activities that bring a more meaningful and lasting impact, which can contribute to environmental sustainability. For the first time, JASTRe is giving recognition to youths who are dedicated to contributing towards the nation’s development agenda.
