TOKYO — The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has highlighted the establishment of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) as a key example of how complex conflicts can be resolved through dialogue, suggesting it as a model for other conflict-affected areas globally.
According to Philippines News Agency, the success of the peace process in Mindanao is particularly relevant for regions in the Middle East and Europe grappling with protracted conflicts. "As we celebrate the progress made in Mindanao, we must also reaffirm and be ready to share the significance of this achievement in a broader global context," Tanaka remarked during a symposium in Tokyo on August 7, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro.
Tanaka praised the Mindanao peace process as a beacon of hope, underscoring the enduring power of dialogue in resolving conflicts. He also noted the upcoming historic Bangsamoro Parliament Election and the anticipated establishment of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Government in June 2025, reaffirming JICA's commitment to supporting Mindanao's development. "JICA joins all stakeholders in hoping for a future where the Bangsamoro people can truly unite and build a prosperous and peaceful region - a Consolidated Bangsamoro," he added.
