Muslims in Brunei Darussalam will celebrate Hari Raya Aidil Adha thsi Wednesday. After Sunat Hari Raya Aidil Adha Prayer and the following Tasyrik days, Islam commanded the Muslims to perform Qurban or act of sacrifice for camels, goats, cows or buffaloes. Yesterday’s Friday Sermon explained that Act of Sacrifice is part of religious syiar that must be honoured and highly respect. Titled “Mengagungkan Ibadah Korban” or Honouring Sacrificial Worship, the sermon reminded that the hukum or rule of the sacrifice is Sunat Muakkad or a strong option which is almost obligatory for Muslims who have reached adolescence as well as are independent and capable.

The rites of sacrifice is an opportunity bestowed by Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala to mankind, of which the opportunity comes only every Zulhijjah. The Imam or Prayer Leader also described the positive impacts of sacrificial worship in religious and social terms as: Firstly, it can upholds the Almighty’s command based on piety. Secondly, fosters compassion for the underprivileged. Third, strengthens brotherhood and lastly, educates us to be helpful and cooperative.
