Five Indonesian Men Sentenced for Immigration Act Violations in Kuala Belait.


KUALA BELAIT: Five Indonesian men were charged in court for offences under the Immigration Act, Chapter 17. The prosecution resulted from an enforcement operation by the Department of Immigration and National Registration, Kuala Belait Branch, carried out under Operasi Kabat. Samsodin, aged 41, Dedi Stiawan, 26, and Andi Purwanto, 29 years old, were sentenced to five months imprisonment from 5th November and received three whippings for overstaying after their immigration passes had expired.

According to Radio Television Brunei, 51-year-old Ahmad Saekhoni received a sentence of five months imprisonment for overstaying after his immigration pass had expired; however, no whipping was imposed in accordance with the provision of Section 258, Criminal Procedure Code, Chapter 7. His sentence also commenced on 5th November. Meanwhile, Samroni, 51, settled a fine of $3,500 for overstaying in the country after his immigration pass had expired.
