Jawi Name Writing and Signature Competition Highlights Cultural Preservation Efforts.
Bandar Seri Begawan: Jawi writing is a symbol of culture which is not only artistically beautiful, but also full of history that must be preserved. Jawi writing is part of the cultural heritage that must be preserved and passed on to the next generation. But according to the Ra’es of Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, KUPU SB; currently efforts to maintain Jawi writing are seen to be diminishing and often neglected. Thus, the Jawi Name Writing and Signature Competition for Primary School students is timely and to some extent will foster a sense of love for Malay cultural heritage as well as empower writing skills and recognise Jawi letters correctly and aesthetically.
According to Radio Television Brunei, Associate Professor Doctor Abdul Nasir bin Haji Abdul Rani also said the competition was not only to hone Jawi writing skills, but also aimed to bring the people, especially the young generation closer to the nation’s valuable heritage. dullah from Awang Haji Mohd Yusof Primary School, Katimahar. Meanwhile, Awang Md. Khaleel Shareef bin Md. Sahril Rizuan from Kampung Mata-Mata Primary School, Gadong and Awang Muhammad Adam bin Nayan from Puni Primary School, Temburong took second and third place respectively.
