Plastic pollution is among the major environmental issues the world is facing today. Therefore, sustainability is the overarching solution to all environmental problems. In the context of achieving a clean, safe, healthy and sustainable environment, the Minister of Development said it is crucial to maintain an ecological balance in the planet's natural environment and conserve natural resources to support the well-being of future generations. Speaking this morning at the launch of Environment Week 2023, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid also stated that Brunei Darussalam has incorporated safeguarding the environment and ensuring its sustainability into its development agenda. Also suggested were the Three Malay P's to ensure that efforts in sustaining the environment are in itself sustainable: Pengetahuan or Knowledge, Pimpin or Lead and Penyertaan or Participation.
With the theme, 'Road Towards a Sustainable Environment Hashtag Be The Solution', Environment Week is held in conjunction with the Brunei MYCE 2023 and the 50th Anniversary of World Environment Day. A presentation on the commitment to maintain collaborative efforts with all ASEAN Member States towards a resilient ASEAN was also held. The event ran concurrently with a Prize Presentation for the Short Video Competition organised by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation, JASTRe. Environment Week is taking place until tomorrow at the Chancellor Hall, Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
