BAJO DE MASINLOC — Following a tragic maritime collision on October 2nd, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has confirmed the distribution of aid to the affected fishermen of the ill-fated FB Dearyn, as well as to their families.
According to Philippines News Agency, the incident, which involved the local fishing vessel and the Marshall Islands-flagged tanker MV Pacific Anna, resulted in the loss of three lives, including the boat's captain. The assistance program was promptly initiated, catering to both the survivors and the families of those who perished.
DSWD-3 (Central Luzon) officials reported the provision of psychosocial support to the eleven surviving fishers and to the relatives grieving the deceased. During this time of hardship, the department's interventions aim to alleviate the emotional and financial distress caused by the sudden loss of income for these families.
The DSWD-3 director, Venus Rebuldela, disclosed that the department had allocated PHP190,000 for assistance. This sum encompasses food aid of PHP70,000, educational support amounting to PHP90,000, and burial assistance of PHP10,000 for each of the deceased fishers’ families. Additionally, further educational assistance is to be granted upon the completion of necessary paperwork.
