Post: DPWH Proposes PHP3.4 Billion Sewerage Treatment Facility for Cagayan de Oro

CAGAYAN DE ORO – The Department of Public Works and Highways in Northern Mindanao (DPWH-10) has proposed the construction of a PHP3.4 billion sewerage treatment facility for the city, aimed at enhancing local sanitation infrastructure.

According to Philippines news Agency, DPWH-10 project focal person, the initiative will undergo a comprehensive three-phase feasibility study. Castro emphasized the importance of revising the 2018 feasibility study to reflect current needs and conditions. He noted that the construction of the facility is expected to span 15 to 16 years and highlighted the city government’s role in potentially securing subsidies through the enactment of a local sanitation ordinance and updating the feasibility study.

The project, as outlined by city Local Environment and Natural Resources Office chief Armen Cuenca, addresses the mandates of Republic Act 9275, or the Clean Water Act. The construction of the sewerage facility in Barangay Bonbon is deemed urgent to comply with national environmental standards. Cuenca also mentioned recent discussions with Woodfields Consultants Inc., who have agreed to update the feasibility study for the sewerage project, ensuring that it meets the specific needs of the community and the environmental requirements of the law.
