Post: DOH-Caraga Amplifies Efforts to Combat Rising HIV Cases with 8-Point Action Agenda

CARAGA – The Department of Health-Caraga (DOH-13) is escalating its efforts to combat the rising cases of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in the region by implementing an 8-Point Action Agenda. This strategic plan aims to enhance healthcare quality and access amid growing health challenges, as announced by the Regional Director, Cesar Cassion, during a briefing on Tuesday.

According to Philippines news Agency, the 8-Point Action Agenda is grounded in the principles of Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines) and is designed to address significant socio-economic barriers that prevent equitable healthcare access. As part of the initiative, the region has ramped up its HIV awareness campaigns and is promoting early testing, crucial for managing the virus. DOH-13 reported a 41.4 percent increase in HIV cases last year, totaling 340 confirmed infections, up from 242 in 2022.

The region has established five HIV testing centers, including facilities in Butuan Medical Center and several hospitals across Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Sur. Enhanced networking with local organizations and groups is a key component of the strategy, aiming to bolster community engagement in HIV prevention and education.

Furthermore, DOH-13 has recently seen the inauguration of 12 Super Health Centers and a BUCAS (Bagong Urgent Care and Ambulatory Services) Center at the Adela Serra Ty Memorial Medical Center. With a robust workforce of over 1,000 healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and midwives, the department is committed to fully implementing its action agenda. Additionally, the Medical Assistance for Indigent Patients (MAIP) program has provided substantial financial aid, benefiting thousands of residents in Caraga.
