DOH Urges Public to Avoid Bringing Small Children to Cemeteries Amid Health Concerns
The Department of Health (DOH) issued a warning on Monday, advising the public against bringing small children to cemeteries.
According to Philippines News Agency, the advisory aims to prevent injuries and diseases resulting from overcrowding conditions.
Herbosa stated that while Covid-19 cases are plateauing across the nation, the threat of the virus remains, particularly in areas with increasing numbers of cases. “Small children have low resistance against infections,” Herbosa noted, emphasizing the health risks involved.
The health secretary also warned against purchasing food items from ambulant vendors situated within and around cemeteries. Foods such as green mangoes, sandwiches, and fruit juices could be contaminated due to unsafe water and environmental factors, thereby posing a risk to consumer health.
To mitigate health risks, the DOH advises individuals planning to visit cemeteries to bring their own food and water. “We can all prevent contracting diseases when visiting our dearly departed loved ones. Let us be responsible with our actions and make our visit solemn,” Herbosa concluded.
