Dengue Fatality Rates Decline Despite Rise in Cases, Says DOH
Manila-The Department of Health (DOH) has reported a decrease in dengue-related fatalities this year, despite an overall increase in dengue cases nationwide. According to DOH spokesperson Albert Domingo, there have been 364 deaths out of 136,161 cases recorded from January 1 to August 3, reflecting a fatality rate of 0.27 percent.
According to Philippines News agency, Domingo attributed the lower death rate to improved early consultation habits among the public, which has helped in timely management of the disease. He emphasized that early recognition of symptoms common to dengue, leptospirosis, gastroenteritis, and influenza—such as fever, headaches, and body aches—is crucial, particularly in young children. The DOH continues to urge the public not to ignore these symptoms to prevent complications. The regions with noted increases in dengue cases include the National Capital Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and several others across the Philippines.
