CEBU CITY, PHILIPPINES — The city government of Cebu City has pledged logistical support for a comprehensive geotagging survey scheduled by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) for July. This initiative is part of a broader effort to update and enhance local data systems amid rapid urban development.
According to Philippines News Agency, the PSA will utilize geotagging tools to survey all 80 villages within the city. The survey aims to collect new data, redefine boundaries, name streets, and assign numbers to households, thereby facilitating better urban planning and development. "PSA will be here in July to help us with the data we need. We will also help them with their logistics," stated Rama during a recent meeting with National Statistician and Undersecretary Claire Dennis Mapa.
The city's Planning and Development Office has proposed using geotagging as a foundation for developing a Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS). This aligns with Republic Act 11315, the CBMS Act, which requires the implementation of such systems to gather, process, and validate disaggregated data. These data are crucial for local government units to engage in effective planning, program implementation, and impact monitoring.
