Camarines Sur - The provincial government of Camarines Sur expressed optimism for economic growth and enhanced tourism with the inauguration of a new 1,000-megawatt offshore wind energy project by Danish firm Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).
According to Philippines News Agency, who spoke at the CIP San Miguel Bay offshore wind power project launch on Thursday night at the Camarines Watersports Center, the initiative is set to create approximately 2,500 immediate jobs and provide numerous indirect economic benefits. Local communities are expected to supply various services and goods needed by the project, including food, lodging, and maintenance.
Villafuerte emphasized that the project would not only generate significant tax revenues but also bolster the tourism sector by making the region a unique destination due to its status as the first of its kind in the area. He mentioned that the presence of wind turbines is expected to attract more visitors to San Miguel Bay, which is shared by the provinces of Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur.
The governor also highlighted the environmental advantages of the project, noting that it aligns with the national government's strategy to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy, thereby supporting sustainable economic development across the Philippines.
The project will extend across several towns including Sipocot, Cabusao, Libmanan, Calabanga, Tinambac, and part of Siruma. Danish Ambassador to the Philippines, Franz-Michael Mellbin, attended the launch and expressed his optimism about the project's success, emphasizing the Philippines' potential in utilizing renewable energy sources like wind, solar, biomass, and geothermal.
