Post: Brunei International Airport Cargo Centre Handles Over 209 Million Kilogrammes in a Decade

Bandar Seri Begawan – Brunei International Airport Cargo Centre (BIACC) reported significant cargo throughput over the past decade, including entry, exit, and transit cargo services.

According to Radio Television Brunei, from 2012 to 2022, BIACC managed over 209 million kilogrammes of air cargo. Transit cargo services saw the highest volumes, while exit cargo consistently showed lower figures annually.

The period from 2012 to 2019, excluding 2014, witnessed over 20 million kilogrammes of cargo handled each year. However, cargo volumes decreased in 2020 following the border closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Transit cargo accounted for over 130 million kilogrammes, entry cargo nearly 70 million, and exit cargo exceeded 8.6 million in the 11-year span. Notably, there was a 70% reduction in 2020 to just over 11.6 million kilogrammes, with a continued decline through 2022.

The average entry cargo was over 7.3 million kilogrammes, peaking in 2015 at over 8.3 million. Pre-COVID-19, the annual entry cargo averaged above 7 million kilogrammes. Exit cargo reached its zenith in 2012 with over 2.5 million kilogrammes but decreased until 2018, despite a brief uptick in 2019, then dramatically fell below 500 kilogrammes between 2020 and 2022.
