Bandar Seri Begawan: The citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam are fortunate to receive vaccination services from the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam through the Ministry of Health. The Minister of Health shared the matter in a message in conjunction with World Immunisation Week 2025. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar said Brunei Darussalam National Immunisation Expansion Programme currently covers 12 types of vaccines for vaccine-preventable diseases.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the programme has achieved and maintained an immunisation coverage rate of over 95 percent each year. The Minister of Health said that the introduction of the Pertussis vaccine for pregnant mothers in November 2024, and the introduction of Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) for infants in the National Immunisation Expansion Programme in February this year, highlight the government's commitment in ensuring good health and well-being for the country's population.
The achievements of the programme have also made the country one of the countries declared free from Polio, Measles, and Rubella, over the past two decades. However, the country is not exempt from ongoing and increasing global health threats. Therefore, the Minister of Health stressed that the country cannot be too comfortable with the country's national immunisation achievements because it can lead to vulnerability.
World Immunisation Week is celebrated annually to raise awareness about the importance of vaccines in protecting individuals and communities from preventable infectious diseases with the theme, "Immunisation for All is Humanly Possible".
