Post: Bilateral Meeting Enhances Brunei-Thailand Relations


Kazan: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, attended a bilateral meeting with His Excellency Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand. The meeting took place in Kazan, Russian Federation, aimed at strengthening the diplomatic relations between Brunei and Thailand, which were established on 1st January 1984.



According to Radio Television Brunei, His Majesty expressed his appreciation to His Excellency Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, for hosting the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit, marking over a decade since His Majesty’s last visit to Russia. The Sultan shared memories of past interactions, including President Putin’s visit to Brunei for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in 2000 and his virtual participation during Brunei’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2021.



During the meeting with the Thai Prime Minister, the focus was on enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, food supply, and people-to-people exchanges. His Majesty extended an invitation to the Prime Minister of Thailand to visit Brunei Darussalam. His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen, Minister of Foreign Affairs, accompanied His Majesty at the meeting, emphasizing the commitment to maintaining and fostering the close and friendly relations between the two nations in various fields such as education, health, defence, culture, and food security.
