Batangas City: Batangas Fashion Industry Aims for International Market

BATANGAS CITY - The provincial government is targeting the international fashion market for Batangas' indigenous textiles and apparel, particularly those made by local artisans using traditional weaving methods.

According to Philippines News Agency, head of the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (PTCAO), a successful month-long celebration of native fashion, which culminated in a fashion show on Friday night, was just the beginning of their promotional efforts.

Buted explained that the event, "Hibla at Deboho" (Fiber and Sketch), aimed to rekindle appreciation for local heritage and identity. Fashion designers from various towns, including Agoncillo, Balete, Bauan, and Batangas City, showcased their creations, highlighting woven fabrics from Ibaan and Taal. Buted emphasized the commitment to supporting local weavers and embroiderers to boost their income and promote the industry province-wide.

The PTCAO, in partnership with SM Supermalls and civic groups, showcased local artists' creations in celebration of National Heritage Month. Governor Hermilando Mandanas stressed the importance of integrating tourism with culture and customs to strengthen local identity. He recognized the contributions of internationally renowned designers Renee Salud and Patis Tesoro and distributed high-speed sewing machines to indigent tailors to help grow their businesses.
