The planting of two thousand trees campaign for the Ministry of Finance and Economy as well as its departments began yesterday. The campaign is held to support the green protocol guidelines that outlined measures that need to be implemented in order to reduce the carbon footprint. The event took place yesterday afternoon at the Berakas Forest Reserve Recreational Park, Jalan Lebuhraya Muara- Tutong. The campaign was participated by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy. The Green Protocol outlines the measures that need to be implemented to reduce the carbon footprint in public service premises with the efficient use of technology as well as the adoption of cost-saving measures in seven key elements namely, Energy usage; Water usage; Use of Paper; Use of Plastics; Waste Disposal Management, Official Event Management; and Tree Planting. Aside from that it is also aimed to raise awareness among the public servants in the government sectors. Business Tithe Presentation

The total collection for the Tithe Money Group that has been received by the Brunei Islamic Religious Council, MUIB including the business tithe money collection from January 2020 until yesterday is $25,339,904.50, while the total distribution from the tithe money group for asnafs who are entitled to receive the tithe money assistance in the country throughout the year 2020 and 2021 is $43,743,378.29. The tithe money will be distributed to the tithe recipients in Brunei Darussalam namely the poor and destitute, new converts, Al-Gharimin, Amil and Ibnu Sabil.

 

Yesterday morning, MUIB received the business tithe money of Al-Bukhari Sendirian Berhad amounting to Fifteen Thousand dollars, which was received by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin Bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs as Yang Di-Pertua of Brunei Islamic Religious Council from Fakhri Alam, Manager of Al-Bukhari Textile Centre Sendirian Berhad. Any enterprise in the form of trade or business, whether small or in a large-scale, in the form of a company or individual called a business, is obliged to pay tithe starting from it is called a business after fulfilling the conditions stipulated.

Postponement of Sending Haj Pilgrims

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al- Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to support the Brunei Islamic Religious Council to postpone the sending of Brunei Darussalam’s Haj Pilgrims for this year’s haj season.

 

The Ministry of Religious Affairs in its press release yesterday informed that the support to postpone was made during the Brunei Islamic Religious Council’s meeting held on Monday, the last 5th of April. The Ministry also informed that the decision was made based on concerns over the global current state of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the release, the Government’s prohibition on performing the Haj must be complied with by all country’s citizens and residents, including those who intend to travel privately, whether from within or outside the country.
