Davao City - Vice President Sara Z. Duterte personally visited and provided assistance to flood victims in Barangay Bago Aplaya, Davao City, on Friday. The Office of the Vice President (OVP) distributed financial aid to families affected by the severe flooding that occurred on Wednesday night.
According to Philippines News Agency, Duterte's visit coincided with her attendance at the signing ceremony for the Comprehensive and Sustainable Urban Development Master Plan for Metropolitan Davao, a collaboration between the National Economic and Development Authority and the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
The City Disaster Reduction Risk Management Office (CDRRMO) reported that the flooding led to the evacuation of 127 families, or 454 individuals, from eight villages. The Vice President assured continued relief operations through the OVP-Satellite office in Davao City. CDRRMO chief Alfredo Baloran emphasized the importance of monitoring localized thunderstorm advisories, noting that these storms often bring moderate to heavy rainfall, strong winds, and thunderstorms. He advised residents, especially those in low-lying areas near creeks, to stay alert, heed weather advisories, and prioritize evacuation if heavy rainfall persists.
