Top seed bags 2nd straight PH Satellite Series 2 squash title

Top seed Robert Andrew Garcia lived up to his billing to claim victory in the second leg of the Philippine Satellite Series 2. "It was a tough match as expected," Garcia said in an interview on Monday. He defeated South Korea's No. 1 player, Jaejin Yoo, 16-14, 10-12, 11-6, 11-9 in their title match at the National Squash Center inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Malate, Manila on Sunday evening. Yoo raced to a 7-3 lead in the second set. While Garcia managed to take command at 9-7 and 10-8, as he made four errors that allowed the world's No. 361 Korean to prevail. Garcia regained his form in the third set and remained focused in the next one to secure his second straight title. "I'm so happy to win again," said Garcia, who recalled losing to Yoo the first time they met at the 2015 Korea Open. "I'm looking forward to the third leg next week. I'll go for a sweep," said the world's No. 187 Filipino, a member of the mixed team that won the gold medal at the 2019 Manila SEA Games. Meanwhile, Reymark Begornia defeated David William PeliƱo, 11-9, 11-1, 11-2, in the battle for third place. Begornia, the country's No. 2 player, absorbed an 8-11, 9-11, 5-11 setback from Yoo in the semifinal round of the tournament organized by the Philippine Squash Academy, Inc. (PSA) headed by Robert Bachmann. "The result was not good because I lost to Yoo, but I'm still positive. I learned a lot from our match. The experience has motivated me to strive harder in the next tournament," the 30-year-old player from Taytay, Rizal province said. "My target in the third leg is to reach the final," said Begornia, who settled for a runner-up finish in the first leg won by Garcia, 11-2, 5-11, 11-4, 13-11. The third leg is scheduled from April 20-23.
