Post: Special BIMP-EAGA Summit Highlights Regional Cooperation Challenges and Opportunities

Cebu: His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended the Special BIMP-EAGA Summit, held at Shangri-La Mactan Resort, Cebu, accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen. At the summit, His Majesty addressed global uncertainties affecting energy markets, supply chains, and food systems.

According to Radio Television Brunei, His Majesty's titah emphasized BIMP-EAGA's potential to contribute to regional stability and food security due to its natural resources and agricultural capacity. He highlighted the need for deeper cooperation and enhanced regional integration in areas such as food, energy, connectivity, and logistics.

His Majesty identified energy cooperation as a priority, advocating for the upgrading and interconnection of power grids in rural and remote areas. He also stressed the importance of addressing the digital divide by expanding broadband connectivity to improve market access, efficiency, and innovation in rural economies.

His Majesty called for the optimization of reconfigured economic corridors to attract investments in food and energy. He reaffirmed support for the BIMP-EAGA Vision 2035 as a framework for resilient, inclusive, and sustainable growth and stressed the importance of establishing a fully operational Secretariat for effective coordination and timely implementation of commitments. The summit concluded with the adoption of the Joint Statement of the Special Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Summit 2026.
