Southwest Monsoon Impacts Widespread Areas of the Philippines with Isolated Rains
MANILA — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced early Sunday that the southwest monsoon, locally known as ‘Habagat’, will continue to affect most regions across the Philippines. The weather system is expected to bring isolated rain showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon and evening.
According to Philippines News Agency, a large portion of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies accompanied by isolated rain showers and thunderstorms. Similar conditions are predicted for Western Visayas, the Negros Island Region, and Palawan, including the Kalayaan Islands, as well as Central Visayas. The administration has issued warnings for potential floods and landslides in these regions due to the expected weather patterns.
Further forecasts indicate that Eastern Visayas and most parts of Mindanao will also face partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms, primarily due to the influence of the southwest monsoon. These areas may see moderate to heavy rainfall. Occidental Mindoro is similarly expected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with occasional rain showers and thunderstorms, driven by localized thunderstorms.
In terms of wind conditions, light to moderate winds blowing from the southwest are expected to prevail over the Visayas, Palawan, the Kalayaan Islands, and Occidental Mindoro. These areas will also experience slight to moderate seas.
The sunrise was observed at 5:40 a.m., with the sunset expected at 6:24 p.m. Residents in affected areas are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions against the adverse weather conditions.
