Southern Mindanao Faces Weather Disturbances Due to Low Pressure Area

DAVAO CITY - The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued a weather advisory for southern Mindanao as a trough associated with a low pressure area (LPA) affects the region. The advisory, released early Sunday morning, forecasts scattered rain showers and potential thunderstorms over the coming days.

According to Philippines News Agency, the LPA is situated approximately 555 kilometers southeast of General Santos City. While the system is unlikely to escalate into a tropical cyclone, its presence will result in cloudy skies and rain over the Caraga and Davao regions. Residents near mountainous areas and low-lying regions have been warned to stay vigilant against possible flash floods triggered by moderate rains and thunderstorms.

PAGASA also reported that a ridge of high pressure will affect the northern and central parts of Luzon, leading to generally fair weather across these areas with chances of isolated rains. Metro Manila and other parts of the country are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with occasional rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

The weather bureau has also issued a heat advisory for various northern and central regions, where the heat index could reach between 42°C and 44°C. Cities such as Dagupan and Roxas are projected to feel temperatures as high as 44°C. The public has been advised to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities, especially during midday.

Overall, the country is set to have light to moderate winds with slight to moderate seas. Specific temperature forecasts include Metro Manila ranging from 25°C to 35°C, Baguio from 16°C to 25°C, and both Metro Cebu and Metro Davao from 27°C to 33°C.
