Senator Tulfo Calls for Investigation into NAIA Security Following Incident
PASAY CITY — Senator Raffy Tulfo has called for a thorough investigation into the security protocols at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA 3) following a disruptive incident involving a Vietnamese traveler.
According to Philippines News Agency, who chairs the Senate Committee on Public Services, the incident occurred when a Vietnamese woman, initially barred from flying to Ho Chi Minh City due to overstaying her visa, undressed and caused a disturbance in the departure area. “I will file a resolution to investigate this incident, particularly the handling of security protocols at airport facilities,” Tulfo stated in a press release on Friday. The woman, after becoming agitated during the immigration process on June 8, stripped and walked naked through the terminal, drawing significant attention and leading to a security scramble to manage the situation.
Security personnel eventually calmed the woman, redressed her, and escorted her to a medical clinic where she was evaluated before being allowed to proceed with her travel plans. Tulfo highlighted concerns over the security team’s initial response, noting from surveillance footage that the personnel seemed uncertain about how to handle such a situation effectively. “It was evident in the video that security personnel seemed unsure of what to do in this kind of situation,” he noted, adding that the woman was allowed to approach the boarding gate and cause further disruptions.
The senator emphasized the need for clear definitions of roles and responsibilities among the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group, the Manila International Airport Authority, the Office for Transportation Security, and private security agencies to prevent confusion and improve response efficiency. “It is about time to have a proper system of security protocols,” Tulfo concluded, aiming to enhance the airport’s ability to handle unexpected events without compromising safety or operational integrity.
