Senator Marcos Reinstates Nutribun Program to Combat Child Malnutrition

ECHAGUE – Senator Imee Marcos has initiated a fortified nutribun distribution in Echague and Santiago City, reviving a childhood nutrition initiative started by her father, the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

According to Philippines News Agency, Senator Marcos led the distribution event at the Isabela State University-Echague gymnasium, targeting children aged 3 to 5 as part of a three-month feeding program aimed at countering malnutrition. The program harkens back to the nutribun initiative of President Marcos Sr. during his presidency, designed to provide nutritional support to elementary school students. In Echague, Senator Marcos oversaw the distribution of assistance from the social welfare department, with 2,000 students receiving PHP5,000 each. The program extended to Santiago City, where 2,000 tricycle operators and drivers were given PHP3,000 each as part of the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS). Additionally, during her early birthday celebration on November 12, Senator Marcos was greeted with well-wishes by supporters at both locations. She distributed toys and gifts to children and provided ceremonial gifts to senior citizens also celebrating their birthdays. The day concluded with a communal “boodle fight” meal shared with local officials, workers, senior citizens, children, and other birthday celebrants, emphasizing community and celebration.
