Manila, Philippines - The Department of Agriculture (DA) has reported that the recent magnitude 6.8 earthquake in Sarangani, Davao Occidental, has resulted in PHP2.08 million worth of damage to fisheries equipment.
According to Philippines News Agency, The damages, as outlined in the DA's statement, include 44 boats and fishing gears. Interestingly, the earthquake did not cause any significant damage or losses to agriculture commodities and infrastructures that could impact the food supply system. The DA continues to work closely with local government units, national agencies, and disaster risk reduction and management offices to assess and evaluate the quake's impact and to identify resources for interventions and assistance.
The DA - Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center is committed to providing updates on the effects of the earthquake on the agricultural sector. The quake, which struck on Friday at 4:14 p.m., had its epicenter located 34 km northwest of Sarangani Island and was measured at a depth of 72 km.
