Bandar seri begawan: The Halal Food Control Division of the Syariah Affairs Department, under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, has raised concerns over the halal status of a popular food product, La Pasta Carbonara Flavour Pasta and Sauce from the San Remo brand. The product, which was being sold in a local supermarket, came under scrutiny following a consumer complaint about its halal integrity.
According to Radio Television Brunei, a laboratory analysis conducted by the Department of Scientific Services at the Ministry of Health confirmed the presence of porcine DNA in the San Remo product. In response to these findings, the Syariah Affairs Department has mandated that all supermarkets, retail stores, and other business premises selling the La Pasta Carbonara Flavour Pasta and Sauce immediately relocate the product to the non-halal section. This measure aims to safeguard the interests of the Muslim community in the country.
Furthermore, the department has issued a reminder to all stakeholders involved i
n the food supply chain, including owners, managers, entrepreneurs, traders, importers, suppliers, and distributors, to exercise increased vigilance and sensitivity when handling non-halal products. This includes ensuring proper management at every stage, from importation and storage to transportation and sales, to prevent any similar issues in the future.
