CAVITE — The Luzon leg of the 2024 Philippine Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Games is set to commence this Sunday at Cavite State University (CvSU), featuring a series of competitions across 14 sports involving cadets from the Philippine Army, Navy, and Air Force.
According to Philippines News Agency, marathon champion Richard Solano is slated to light the cauldron during the opening ceremony, while Olympian Charly Suarez will lead the oath of sportsmanship. The games will be hosted at various venues throughout Cavite, including CvSU Indang for sports like arnis, athletics, and volleyball, and other specialized facilities in Tagaytay and Dasmariñas for sports such as boxing, swimming, and taekwondo. Notably, esports will also be featured as one of the competitions.
The event is expected to draw significant attention, with the parade of athletes and a series of performances including a silent drill and cultural dances planned for the opening. Senator Francis Tolentino, a key supporter of the tournament, will attend as the guest of honor. Additionally, CvSU president Hernando Robles will deliver the welcome remarks, with inspirational messages anticipated from Senate President Francis Escudero and Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham Tolentino.
Following successful events in Bacolod City and Zamboanga City for the Visayas and Mindanao legs respectively, the ROTC Games will conclude with the National Finals in Indang, Cavite, from August 18 to 24.
