Rocket Attack in Golan Heights Kills 10, Israel Accuses Hezbollah

Majdal Shams, Golan Heights – A deadly rocket attack in the Druze town of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights resulted in the deaths of ten individuals, including children, on Saturday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the attack also left over 30 people injured, with emergency services quickly mobilizing to provide medical care. Idan Avshalom, a senior medic at Magen David Adom, Israel’s emergency medical service, described arriving at the football pitch to find severe destruction and casualties, an image reflecting the intensity of the strike. The injured were transported to Ziv Medical Center for treatment.

The rocket was reportedly launched from Lebanon, with Israeli sources naming the Hezbollah militant group as the perpetrators. However, Hezbollah has issued a statement denying any involvement in the attack. Despite their denial, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) maintain that intelligence assessments confirm Hezbollah’s responsibility.

In response to the attack, high-level Israeli defense officials, including Minister of Defense Yoav Galant and army chief Herzi Halevi, have convened to assess the situation. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is currently in the United States, has been briefed and is conducting ongoing security consultations.

This incident escalates ongoing tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border, which have been heightened since early October 2023 following attacks and exchanges of artillery fire between the two regions.
